The Sarracenia, also known as the trumpet pitcher, is a genus of carnivorous plants that are native to the United States and Canada. They have a stunning explosion of appearances from the low growing psittacina to the impressive leucophylla.
Sarracenia attracts insects with a lovely patch of sweet nectar right at the base of the lid. Insects are drawn to this nectar and are encouraged by tiny downward facing hairs to move down into the pitcher. At some point the insect loses its footing and falls down the tube. At this point the bug slowly converted into plant food through digestion by enzymes and bacteria. Yum yum!
There is an explosion of diversity when it comes to sarracenia. The the coloration, the shape and size of the lid - it's all so wondrous. This is an opportunity to get a unique plant. If you purchase multiple I will be sure to send different varieties.
